ABB is a global leader in electrification and automation, known for delivering cutting-edge solutions that improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability across industries. ABB’s Smart Power division, plays a crucial role in delivering innovative low-voltage solutions for industrial and commercial applications.
Within ABB’s Smart Power division part of its Electrification business safety switches, particularly NEMA-rated double-throw safety switches, are a crucial product line ensuring reliable power transfer and electrical safety. These switches hold a significant share in the North American market, making their design and optimization vital for industrial, commercial, and utility applications. Given their prominence, continuous innovation in safety switch design is essential to maintaining ABB’s market leadership and meeting evolving safety standards.
During my tenure at ABB, I contributed to the design and development of industrial low-voltage electrification equipment, specifically focusing on 30-200A double-throw safety switches. As an R&D Associate Engineer, I worked on enclosure designs, modular product development, and feasibility studies, utilizing CAD tools like Creo and conducting advanced tolerance analysis.
My prior internship experience at ABB involved developing a safety interlock mechanism for 400A double-throw switches to mitigate risks in contact weld scenarios. Through these roles, I gained hands-on experience in product development, mechanical design, and manufacturability considerations, helping enhance the safety and efficiency of ABB’s electrification solutions.
